Local History talk "Rest in Peace the Body Snatchers" by Susan Bennett In-Person

Respectable Victorians of all classes were extremely preoccupied by their elaborate rituals for mourning, the funeral, what to wear and what must be done in order to honour the dead - and keep them safe. But there were other less scrupulous members of society who made money out of death - not least the Resurrectionists or Body Snatchers. This talk will explore much that was practiced in Victorian times that is, to us, strange, wonderfully practical or inventive as well as shocking, using real events described in newspaper articles of the times.
