Crosby Library - "Liverpool to the Himalayas" Talk

Crosby Library - "Liverpool to the Himalayas" Talk In-Person

John Winter qualified as a doctor in 1969. In 1971 he was the medical officer on an expedition to make an attempt upon the unclimbed West Ridge of Indrasan, a Himalayan peak over twenty thousand feet high which experts said was more difficult than Everest. The talk is illustrated with a number of spectacular slides and will take you on a journey along the Hippie Trail across Europe, Iran and Afghanistan before ending up in the high Himalayas. Before he joined this expedition John Winter had no experience and the talk describes mountaineering from a non-climber viewpoint and is a tale of medical problems and physical dangers.
