Crosby Library - Formby Lifeboat Station

Crosby Library - Formby Lifeboat Station In-Person

This month's local history talk focuses on "Formby Lifeboat Station". The waters around the entrance of the Mersey are particularly dangerous. In the eighteenth century the notion for using a boat to save lives was considered a new idea. The Liverpool Dock Trustees decided to fund Britain’s first Lifeboat Station at Formby Point in 1776 to rescue individuals and support shipping in the treacherous waters of the Mersey.
